HIPAA Compliance

Medicare beneficiaries consent to the release of medical information necessary to process their Medicare claims upon enrollment in the Medicare program. Providing medical records of Medicare patients to the CERT contractor is within the scope of compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Providers do not need to obtain additional beneficiary authorization to forward medical records to the CERT contractor.
