Instructions for the Calculation of the SNF PPS Per Diems for Urban and Rural Skilled Nursing Facilities

These spreadsheets have been designed to enable the user to quickly calculate their per diem rates under the new Skilled Nursing Prospective Payment System.

Urban 100% Federal for Service Periods 10/1/04 - 9/30/05

• For skilled nursing facilities that are considered urban.
• Enter the wage index for the skilled nursing facility's MSA, from the July 30,2004 Federal Register, Table 8.
• Adjusted per diem amounts are located in column G of the calculator.
• There is a temporary 128 Percent increase in the PPS per diem payment for any SNF resident with acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS). Adjusted per diem amounts are located in column I of the calculator.

Rural - 100% Federal for Service Periods 10/01/04 - 09/30/05

• For skilled nursing facilities that are considered rural.
• Enter the wage index for the skilled nursing facility's MSA, from the July 30,2004 Federal Register, Table 9.
• Adjusted per diem amounts are located in column G of the calculator.
• There is a temporary 128 Percent increase in the PPS per diem payment for any SNF resident with acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS). Adjusted per diem amounts are located in column I of the calculator.
